Exchange Program

Application Process

Long Term Exchange

Is open to enrolled students aged between 15 and 17. Students depart in January.

The first step is completing an Online Expression of Interest Form by April 30th of the year prior the youth exchange year — Apply Now!

All applicants and their parents are interviewed by the District Youth Exchange Committee, and usually take place in mid June.

The available countries are listed on the homepage on this website, and under the LTYE tab. While we ask you to nominate your preferred countries, there is no guarantee that you will get your first choice. There is a lot of communication between clubs, districts and countries to ensure students are matched correctly. It is not uncommon for some students to know exactly where they are going until December, although most know earlier.

We take a number of factors into account in deciding which country to allocate you. The factors include your age, your language skills and your personality as well as Host country requirements.

This website is a dedicated website for District 9520, which covers 53 clubs in four states of Australia: South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

For a list of Rotary Clubs in District 9520, see District 9520 Clubs

If you live or go to school near one of these locations, then we can help you. If you live in other areas, then you can find out your District by going to "I live somewhere else".  To qualify, applicants should be good students who have demonstrated leadership in their community.

Candidates should also possess qualities such as flexibility and a willingness to try new things that will enable them to fully experience life in another country and become excellent cultural ambassadors.

If you are a successful applicant, you will be invited along to:

  •  First briefing day = late August
  •  Final briefing day = early December

Short Term Exchange

The Expression of Interest Form (see link below) must be filled in before the end of June of the year prior to attending program, or be presented at an Interest Meeting.

A full application form will either be sent out or handed to the applicant at the Interest Meeting. The full application form must be returned by 31st July. A non-refundable administration fee of A$200 must be returned with the form.

Applicants and their parents will be interviewed in the family home by members of the sponsoring Rotary clubs. Suitable students are recommended to the District Selection Committees. The District Selection Committee will then arrange to interview all recommended applicants and their parents to select students to participate in the programme. Acceptance to the exchange will depend on a suitable student match being available. It may not be possible to match up every successful applicant. There is a matching conference held in late October each year (this is for District Selection Committees only).

Students are notified if their application is successful on 1st December each year.

If you are a successful applicant you will be invited along to:

  • First briefing day/opportunity to meet returning RANSZE attendees = October
  • Final briefing day = February
